November Top Ten

1. Thanksgiving

Let’s start with the obvious.  I loved eating all my Thanksgiving favorites a few days ago, and I am still loving all of these leftovers.  I’m in heaven

2. Spending time with family

So happy to be home for a little bit.  Definitely miss my family lots during the year when I live in Lubbock.

3. A big kitchen to cook in

Sometimes I forget how great it is to be able to fit more than one person in my cooking space.  And having a deep sink for dishes is wonderful.

4. Snow

Earlier this week, Lubbock had a little winter storm.  I still have mixed feelings about snow: it looks pretty but it is just so cold.   Lubbock drivers also loose all faculties as soon as some form of water falls from the sky, so I enjoy snow at home in my heated apartment.

5. Movies

Movies are starting to get good in theaters now that we are getting into the holiday season.  I have plans to see lots over the break- especially looking forward to the second part of The Hobbit.

6. Leftovers

I have to have another mention regarding Thanksgiving food on this list just because I love it so much.  I am so looking forward to leftover creations in the next few days- I have so many ideas.

7. Cranberries

I have been eating homemade cranberry sauce at every meal possible. I may have a problem.

8. No late night classes

This semester has been great, since I am done all nights by 5:00ish at the latest.  However, next semester looks like I will be having some real late nights.  Going to enjoy my early nights these last few days as much as I can.

9. Friends

I have been having some great times with friend recently, and I realized I had forgotten how much fun it can be just to laugh and have fun.  Novel idea, right? Really don’t think I would be able to survive this life we lead without them.

10. Favorite Recipe of the Month

Mom’s Gravy and Turkey Stuffing

October Top Ten

I am trying something new out today.  At the end of every month, I am going to talk about my top 10 favorite things that happened that month, items I loved, food I ate, etc. Another window into the life of a poor psychology graduate student who tries to maintain her sanity.

1. Yoga

Thanks to Groupon, I got a great deal on unlimited fitness classes at a gym in town.  I started going to some yoga classes several times a week, and I am remembering how much I really do love yoga. Of course, I am pretty sore after each class since I haven’t worked out in years (literally…I wish this was a hyperbole but it isn’t), but I am loving it.

2. Halloween Candy

I love, love, love Halloween candy.  Tell me why are Reese’s pumpkins so superior to Reese’s peanut butter cups?  And it’s about to all go on sale…

3. Lemi-Shine

If you have hard water problem, you need Lemi-shine to use in your dishwater.  Now none of my glasses come out looking “cloudy”.  Everything is so clean

4. Short Hair

I got my hair cut this month to one of the shortest lengths I have ever had, and I love it.  So much easier to style and looks so much better on me.

5. Thesis data collection is DONE

I have gotten all my data collected for my thesis project! Now just on to analyzing it, writing it up, and presenting it.  But in less than a year, I should have my masters.

6. Cooler weather

Thank goodness for cooler weather.  No longer do I get flop sweat walking outside.  We are right in that transition period where I am not sweating and do not have to wear long underwear yet (since I get freakishly cold).  Loving it.

7. Halloween movies

Thank you ABC Family for all your holiday movie marathons.  This month I got to watch some new Halloween movies I had never seen but always wanted to like Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice, and The Adams Family.

8. Gillian Flynn novels

I finished reading all of Gillian Flynn’s novels this month, and I have loved every one of them.  Sometimes it’s hard to get and keep my interests with books and TV, but I could not put these down.

9. Friends to complain and laugh with

If I did not have other people to commiserate with, I am pretty sure I would lose my mind (even more than I already have).

10. Favorite Recipe this Month:

Traditional Pork Banh Mi: Who doesn’t love a good sandwich?

Cinnamon Freud: A to Z

I have been letting myself get a little too busy lately, and I feel like this blog has been pretty quiet.  Time to change that! No food at the moment, but here is a chance for me to tell you a little more about myself because I am incredibly fascinating.  Check back again soon for some new recipes!

A: Attached or Single

Single.  The most action I have gotten in a while came from a dog licking my face.

B: Best Friend?

My mom, without a doubt the person in the world I can talk to almost anything about

C: Cake or Pie

This is literally my Sophie’s choice.  I love both so very much.  Can I just have a big tub of frosting instead?

D: Day of Choice

Friday from 5:00 PM to Saturday of 5:00 PM.  Or just Saturday

E: Essential Item

My iPhone.  How could I go on if I did not have the option of playing stupid mindless games on my phone

F: Favorite Color

G: Gummy bears or worms?

I don’t discriminate. #equalityforgummyfoods

H: Hometown

Sugar Land, TX (just outside Houston) where humidity will try to suffocate you

I: Favorite Indulgence

Eating a big plate of something sweet while watching a Bravo marathon

J: January or July?

January- only because July is oppressively hot and I approach the poverty line by paying my electric bills

K: Kids

….I don’t really like them. But I do like sleeping babies.

L: Life isn’t complete without?

Doing something  you love, whether it be a job, hobby, or activity

M: Marriage Date

Stardate: 4631

N: Number of Brothers and Sisters

One younger sister

O: Oranges or apples/

Apples, apples, apples.  I eat at least one every day

P: Phobias

To be brief: death, butterflies (don’t ask), and needles/surgery

Q: Quote

“Look to the cookie” – Seinfeld.

I am real deep guys

R: Reasons to smile

A funny friend, getting to wake up without an alarm,

S: Season of choice?

Fall and the beginning of winter

T: Tag 5 people

I tag any and all of you who have read this!  I throw down the gauntlet challenge

U: Unknown fact about me

V: Vegetable

Brussels sprouts are a new favorite, but I have always loved carrots.  And onions.

W: Worst habit?

I twirl my hair all the time (and probably contribute to early baldness)

X: X-ray or ultrasound?

Both.  Web-MD panicked induced diagnosis FTW

Y: Your favorite food?

Any type of dessert, but my favorite may be Key Lime Pie

Z: Zodaic Sign

Capricorn.  Baaa (my impression of a goat).

Thanks to Abby for this idea!

Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Fourth of July everyone!

I hope you all have some fun planned for this summer holiday, whether it be watching the fireworks, lighting up the grill, or just relaxing.

I will be taking a mini-Texas road trip and enjoying some time off before gearing back up again next week. I hope this trip will involve lots of food, a healthy-and-safe-distance fireworks viewing, exploration, and fun.  I may never come back. (a lie, my neuroses and guilt-proneness would not allow me to do something so spontaneous.  I have my limits)

Since it is always American to celebrate any holiday with food, here are some great ideas for a Fourth of July feast:

This Summer…

Happy summer everyone!  Since today is officially the first day of summer, let’s take a short break from food to talk about summer fun.

This summer is my first summer where I am working through the summer, so it’s feeling a little different than my typical summer of lazing around all day.  Still, I am finding that I have a lot of free time and am growing a little restless.  So what do I need to do: make myself another list!

Just to make sure I get out and about and don’t spend another summer doing nothing, I am making myself a list.  Because I love checking things off lists, I am hoping this will ensure some summer fun.

Also check out my friend’s style Kelsey’s blog, Brilliantly Styled, to see me try and model!

Summer To Do List:

Celebrate Half Christmas (shindig this weekend!)

Read at least 25 books for pleasure (3 down so far!)

Learn to use my camera

Cook quinoa successfully and not repeat my first disastrous try

Make elote

Go to a drive in movie

Watch 3 summer blockbusters in theaters (1 down thanks to the gorgeous Superman)

Wear more dresses

Take a road trip

Complete a DIY craft

Go to a park

Have a picnic

Host/attend a Pot Luck

Read about new theoretical orientations & make progress on my thesis (blah, blah, boring right?)

Have more fun!
